Light, rich, flaky and made with pure butter and sugar, this pulled candy, better-known in our community as "cream" candy, really does melt in your mouth. One of the most popular items in Newsom's Old Mill Store, it is a delicious after dinner compliment to our own Newsom's Country Ham.
The traditional homemade version of this candy is a team effort, requiring two candymakers to pull the concoction into a pliable form after the liquid is poured from a boiling pot onto a cold marble slab and begins to wax. Pulling cream candy is an art passed from generation to generation. Marble slabs are even handed down in family wills.
"Mom" Blakeman's pulled candy was established (at a personal recommendation by KFC's Col. Sanders) in 1961 as a family business.
